The mobile app for technicians

The Roldesk mobile app is built for the people in the field. It runs on Android today (iOS is a fast-follow), and a tech signs in with the same email and password they use for the web app — no separate account.

What a tech can do

  • Start and end shifts with GPS tracking (see Mobile shift start).
  • Work their orders — see assigned jobs, open a work order, update status, log tasks, add parts, record labor.
  • Complete jobs on-site — capture a signature and finish the order from the field (see Completing jobs from the field).
  • Create and edit invoices and quotes — bill or price a job standing in front of the customer.
  • Manage assets — add or edit equipment, parts, tools, vehicles, and warehouses so the registry stays current.
  • Look up accounts and contacts to attach the right customer to a job.
  • Get push notifications for new assignments and updates (Android).

What each tech sees depends on three things

  1. Their role. The mobile app enforces the same access roles as the backoffice — a tech only sees the modules and actions their role allows. For example, the work-order list is scoped to jobs assigned to them, and create/edit/delete follow their permissions. (See Roles and permissions.)
  2. Your plan. Modules your subscription doesn't include appear locked with an upgrade prompt rather than disappearing. (See Managing your subscription and seats.)
  3. Seats. If a downgrade puts you over your mobile-user limit, the newest seats are locked and that tech sees a "seat locked" screen until you upgrade or free a seat.

Language

Each tech can run the app in English, Spanish, or Portuguese — the switcher is on the Profile screen and is independent of everyone else. (See Working in your language and currency.)

Working offline

Location pings buffer locally with no signal and upload in a batch when connectivity returns, so a dead zone doesn't lose a shift's tracking.
