Duplicating work orders
The same job often happens in many places — annual contract visits, multi-unit buildings, recurring inspections. Roldesk has three ways to stamp it out without re-typing.
What gets copied
Every flow copies the source order's:
- Type, priority, customer, asset, problem title + description
- Tasks (with status reset to PENDING)
- Parts (line items, with installed-status reset)
And resets:
- Status to SCHEDULED
- Timestamps (no inherited scheduled date — pick it for each)
- Assignment (you'll reassign each copy consciously)
Labor entries and notes don't carry over — those are execution data, not template data. Every copy gets an audit-log entry pointing back to the source.
1. Per-row Duplicate (1 copy)
In the field-orders list, click Duplicate on any row. The modal opens with "Number of copies: 1". Hit Create and the copy lands.
2. Duplicate × N (templated repeat)
Same Duplicate button — but bump the count. Need 8 identical units for a building maintenance run? Set 8 and you get 8 copies in one transaction. Capped at 50 per request to avoid runaway accidents.
3. Bulk duplicate (selected rows)
Check several rows in the field-orders list. The bulk toolbar appears at the top with a Duplicate button. One click clones every selected row — useful when you have a varied set (different customers / assets) that all need to repeat next month.
Tip — naming
The new order numbers are auto-generated. Once they're created, open each one and adjust the scheduled start + assignment. That's typically the only thing you need to change per copy.
