How warranty coverage is inherited

Coverage follows a pyramid — contract, then equipment, then component — and the highest active level wins.

How warranty coverage is inherited

Coverage for a tracked asset is resolved at read time from three levels, highest wins:

Contract ▸ Equipment ▸ Component

  • If an active warranty contract covers the asset (or its parent equipment), it's Covered · contract and shows the contract number.
  • Otherwise, if the parent equipment is under warranty, the component is Covered · equipment.
  • Otherwise, the component's own warranty applies (Under warranty).
  • If nothing is active, it's Not covered.

Because the highest active level wins, a just-replaced component with its own live warranty stays covered even if the equipment's warranty has lapsed. The equipment detail page shows the resolved coverage as a badge.
