Recording a component replacement on a work order

When a work order services an equipment, a component line can be tracked or recorded as a replacement — both in the create wizard and on an existing work order's Parts tab.

Per-line options

On a component (material) line, choose:

  • Not tracked — a plain charge line (the default; use it for consumables).
  • Track as new component — adds the component as a new tracked child of the equipment.
  • Replaces a component… — pick the existing tracked component it replaces.

When it takes effect

The change is committed when the work order is completed, so nothing is created until the job is actually done:

  • the new component is created under the equipment (install date = completion date, warranty from the catalog item, same customer account),
  • the replaced component is retired and moved to the equipment's Replacement history.

It's safe to complete a work order more than once — a replacement is only committed once.
