Tracking an equipment's components

Promote a component to a tracked child of an equipment so it carries its own serial, warranty and history.

Tracking an equipment's components

An equipment (for example an HVAC unit) can have tracked components — child records that carry their own serial number, warranty and service history.

Track a component

On an equipment's detail page, open the Tracked components panel and choose Track a component. Enter its name, serial and warranty date. The component is created as a child of the equipment and inherits the equipment's customer account.

You only track the components that are worth tracking (a compressor with its own warranty) — everyday consumables (filters, sealant) can stay simple charge lines on a work order.

Why it matters

Tracked components are what the system uses to:

  • record replacements during a work order (see Recording a component replacement),
  • show a replacement history on the equipment,
  • flag a component as replacement advised once its warranty date has passed,
  • resolve warranty coverage (see How warranty coverage is inherited).
